As we grew we were inspired to share our mission with youth outside of ski racing and so on January 19th, 2014, we gratefully partnered with Grouse Mountain and the Big Brothers of greater Vancouver for the first Mike and Manny Community ski day.
With the help of our partners we hosted 20 little brothers and their “Bigs” for a day of skiing giving them a new experience and connecting them with Olympians, individuals who have lived their dream. Olympic skiers Britt Janyk and Trevor White along with some professional coaches from Grouse taught everyone a little about skiing, with all the kids trying skiing for the first time. After a fun morning on the hill, we hosted a lunch where we were inspired by stories of Britt and Trevor’s success.
Our inspiration to expand the vision for the Foundation beyond ski racing came after six years of hosting the Cowboy’s ski camp and hearing stories about the amazing affects our camps were having on ski racing and the alumni we had shared them with. We believe that everyone has within them the powers to live out their dreams if only given the right mixture of opportunity and inspiration to spark their own belief. We feel skiing in the mountains as an amazing opportunity and the Olympians who attend these days the inspiration… from this the Mike and Manny Community ski days were born. Inspire the individual for them to believe they are possible.
Thank you to everyone who made this a success, we are grateful to continue to offer this program and watch it grow.
